The Community Emergency Response Team is a regional Citizen Corps program
overseen by the Elko County Sheriff's Office and funded through Citizen Corps and Department of Homeland Security Grants and administered through the Local Emergency Planning Committee and by donations from local businesses and citizens.
The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through Education, Training and Volunteer Service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues and disasters of all kinds.
Each volunteer must complete 21 hours of initial training in the following areas: Personal Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Medical, Fire Safety and Hazmat, Light Search and Rescue, Disaster Psycholog/Terrorism, Incident Command System and Documentation.
