Open Burning to end at noon June 28th
The Elko County Fire Protection District (ECFPD) is notifying residents of the unincorporated areas of Elko County open burning of yard waste will soon be closing. With temperatures and afternoon winds continuing to heat up and dry out vegetation we will be closing open burning of yard waste effective at noon June 28, 2015. This closure is not a fire restriction or closure on recreational fires on either public or private lands.
Along with the closure of open burning, the ECFPD recommends citizens using burn barrels discontinue use of these devices while open burning is not allowed. Citizens are also reminded that you may be held liable for suppression costs and/or damages related to an escaped burn.
With the onset of summer, now is the time to prepare your property by having an adequate defensible space of 30 feet or more. Some helpful tips for clearing defensible space include watering the area the night prior to mowing, using string trimmers with nylon twine instead of metal blades.
Please use caution went traveling or recreating in the outdoors this summer.
The ECFPD will consider open burning towards autumn as conditions change with more precipitation and cooler weather.
